Messaging App So Good, Even FB Messenger Is Better!

With time, Telegram has gained a reputation as a slightly hippy and, as some may believe, more secure alternative to WhatsApp and Messenger — something on par with the Signal software, which is likely better recognised. However, Telegram’s reputation for providing any amount of additional cybersecurity is wildly overblown, as Signal’s founder, Moxie Marlinspike, pointed out this week in a recent interview.
Marlinspike has taken to dishing out some harsh criticism on Telegram, which is one of Signal’s most significant competitors, by debunking the widely held belief that Telegram offers anything in the way of end-to-end encryption. Messages sent over Telegram are retained on Telegram’s servers in their original form, or plain text, without going through any encryption to secure private user data, according to Marlinspike, who also published this information.

Furthermore, he asserted that, in this aspect, even Facebook’s Messenger and WhatsApp provide greater privacy than the Telegram messaging app. Both of these apps, which are operated by a firm that has since changed its name to Meta, provide at the very least end-to-end encryption for all text messages exchanged through their platforms.
