Signal — The Naked Truth
I have said an awful lot about Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp. I’m always like; Yeah, get rid of Messenger and WhatsApp, and get yourself the Signal app. Except that Signal does not collect data and that your messages are encrypted, I haven’t said much more about it, so here we are with this short review.
What is Signal, and who’s cashing on it?
In straightforward language, Signal is a simple messaging app with end to end encryption at all times. In short, Signal is the app that WhatsApp was intended to be, and was until Facebook takeover.
Signal is one of the few apps on the market that does not collect any data from its users.
Signal is like perfect WhatsApp, do whatever WhatsApp does without compromising users. It is like this because Signal was developed by Brian Acton, the co-developer of the original WhatsApp. According to Wikipedia, Acton told Forbes that he left over a dispute with Facebook regarding monetization of WhatsApp and voluntarily left $850 million in unvested options on the table by leaving a few months before vesting was completed.
According to Forbes, in 2020, Acton was the 836th-richest person in the world, with a net worth of $2.5 billion.
He has gone to lengths to fund and develop Signal. It was funded with grants, donations, consulting contracts…
