For All The Wrong Reasons
Articles about writing on Medium are everywhere, and a significant number of stories are about 100 followers required on Medium to get paid soon. There are loads of fantastic articles, and I’m pretty sure that they all work in some sense, but is it what you are after on Medium? People tend to take one policy and come up with a shortcut to pass through. It happens here on Medium every day. Let’s have a closer look at what I see here. The first thing we have to ask is why Medium has come up with the idea of a minimum of 100 followers to get paid?
While I have no straight answer for that question, I think I managed to deduct what they meant by setting that minimum requirement.
My best bet would be quality. However, considering the number of writers and writing tools today, Medium can be a crowded place at times, full of mediocre writers using questionable AI and cloud-based software, littering the place yet getting paid for it. And while some of them can not write themselves, they are incredibly crafty in gadgets, tools and software. They go for quantity, not quality.
Now, I believe that Medium was absolutely right to set the minimum number of followers. Without that, mediocre, cheating writers could get paid as much or more than the incredible writers whose articles are like poetry, lowering Mediums quality altogether.
